​Join us on Saturday, February 1st from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM for a free indoor baseball fundamentals clinic in partnership with Lower Merion Little League. Led by former New York Met, Zach Lutz, and former New York Yankee and General Manager for ASSA Conshohocken, Eric Ruth, this clinic offers specialized stations for Defense, Hitting, and Pitching, providing valuable insights and techniques for players of all levels.

Ages: 7–12

Defense Stations:
These stations will help players hone their skills in all aspects of defensive play. Participants will engage in a variety of drills designed to improve:

• Infield Fundamentals: Footwork drills, proper set up, and executing quick, accurate throws to the appropriate base.  Forehand, Middle, Backhands, Choppers, Slow rollers.  Throwing from different arm slots
• Agility Work: Drills to focus on and improve agility. 
• Reaction Time: Drills to help players improve their ability to react quickly to the ball and make plays under pressure.

Hitting Stations:
The hitting stations are designed to develop key aspects of the swing and batting techniques. Players will work on:

• Swing Mechanics: Drills aimed at improving the fundamentals of the swing, ensuring players develop a consistent and powerful bat path.
• Tee Work & Soft Toss: Helping players refine their hand-eye coordination resulting in solid contact with the ball.
• Pitch Recognition & Timing: Drills that simulate live pitching to improve bat speed and reaction time, ensuring better timing and pitch selection.
• Power Development: Exercises to increase bat speed and strength through the hitting zone, helping players hit with more power.

Pitching Stations:
Pitching stations will focus on the key elements of effective pitching, with emphasis on technique, mechanics, and control. Players will work on:

• Pitching Mechanics: Drills that ensure proper body positioning and mechanics for optimal velocity and control.
• Pitching Accuracy & Consistency: Focus on hitting spots in the strike zone and maintaining consistency throughout the delivery.
• Grip and Spin: Teaching players how to hold the ball for different pitches like fastballs, changeups, and how to create effective spin for movement.
• Mental Approach & Game Strategy: Helping pitchers develop a strategic approach to facing batters and improving their mental focus during games.

About Your Instructors

Eric Ruth had an exceptional baseball career, beginning as a three-year varsity player at North Penn High School, where he contributed to winning the 2009 PIAA AAAA State Championship. His achievements earned him inductions into the North Penn Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019 and the North Penn Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2024. Ruth continued his baseball journey at Winthrop University, playing Division I baseball before signing with the New York Yankees in 2013. Eric spent five seasons in the Yankees organization, he excelled as a 2015 Eastern League AA All-Star and advanced to AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, showcasing his talent and dedication at every level.

Zach Lutz, a former New York Mets player, brings a wealth of professional baseball experience to All-Star Sports Academy. During his time with the Mets, Lutz showcased his skills as a versatile infielder, competing at the highest level in Major League Baseball. His playing career included notable performances in both the MLB and minor league system, where he was recognized for his consistency at the plate and solid defensive abilities. After transitioning from professional baseball, Lutz has spent several years coaching, providing lessons, and overseeing programs at All-Star Sports Academy. Recently named the Director of Teams at ASSA, he continues to use his extensive knowledge of the game to mentor young athletes, helping them develop their skills and achieve their goals both on and off the field.
